I'm Astrid, a dedicated nurse practitioner with over 18 years of healthcare experience, including over 6 years in mental health, presently welcoming clients in FLORIDA and COLORADO.
I believe everyone deserves care that respects their entire being and honors the uniqueness of their life story.
My mission is to create a supportive and healing environment where mental health is approached holistically in a safe and judgment-free environment.
I am deeply committed to supporting individuals, especially women across the lifespan, from puberty and postpartum to perimenopause and beyond, as they navigate challenges, reclaim their power, and thrive.
I chose to become a psychiatric provider because I am inherently compassionate, and I enjoy talking to people about what's really going on with them, not just what they portray in public. This is always such an honor. I myself am always learning from my patients and their journeys. I love that there's always room for growth and it's never the same.
Welcome! Whether you're looking for support for yourself or your child, I know that taking the first step toward mental health care can feel overwhelming.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Colorado State University Pueblo, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Western Governors University. I later completed a Post-Master's Certificate as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, allowing me to provide psychiatric care across the lifespan.
I offer secure telehealth appointments for patients throughout Colorado, caring for children ages 6 and older, adolescents, adults, and older adults. I provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, and medication management for a variety of mental health conditions, including ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma-related disorders, and other emotional and behavioral concerns.
As both a psychiatric provider and a parent, I understand that every individual has a unique story. I believe the best care begins with listening. I take the time to understand your concerns, answer your questions, and work alongside you to develop a treatment plan that fits your goals and daily life. When caring for children and adolescents, I believe parents and caregivers are essential partners in the treatment process, and I value open communication and collaboration every step of the way. My approach is compassionate, evidence-based, and personalized. Whether you're navigating a new diagnosis, managing ongoing symptoms, or simply looking for guidance, my goal is to help you or your loved one feel more confident, supported, and hopeful. Thank you for considering me to be part of your mental health journey. It is a privilege to care for individuals and families across Colorado, and I look forward to helping you build a healthier, happier future.
I’m Krishawnda (or Shawnda for short)! I’ve been working as a nurse since 2011. I was a RN for 9 years and have been a psychiatric nurse practitioner since 2020. My BSN was obtained from the University of Kentucky. My graduate degree is from Eastern Kentucky University. I have worked in geriatric psych, adult psych, and child psychiatry.
I’m a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with a background that spans mental health, geriatrics, home health, intensive care, and long-term rehabilitation. My personality is open, honest, and direct—I believe transparency builds trust. With over a decade of hands-on nursing experience and recent advanced training in psychopharmacology and CBT, I bring both empathy and expertise to our work together. My clients can count on clear communication, collaborative care, and a deep commitment to helping them thrive.
I am a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I have been a nurse for over 20 years and the majority of my background comes from working in public health and child protective services. I am passionate about providing care that is both clinically effective and deeply human. My work is rooted in an evidence based approach, which means I rely on proven treatments, research and best practices to guide care.
I am a double board-certified Psychiatric–Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of experience across the continuum of psychiatric care, including acute psychiatric emergencies, inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, geriatric mental health, intellectual and developmental disability services, and healthcare management. I hold a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and am currently completing my Doctorate, reflecting my ongoing commitment to clinical excellence, evidence-based practice, and lifelong learning.
Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals and families navigating a wide range of psychiatric conditions, from situational anxiety and depression to severe and persistent mental illness. My clinical experience includes extensive work with schizophrenia and psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma-related conditions, and mood instability across the lifespan. I am particularly experienced in caring for geriatric patients, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and patients with complex medication regimens requiring careful evaluation, simplification, and long-term stabilization.
I also work closely with college-aged patients and adults who are navigating academic pressure, career transitions, family dynamics, identity development, and the cumulative stressors that can emerge during periods of high responsibility or change. Many of my patients are high-functioning individuals who appear “put together” on the outside but struggle internally with anxiety, rumination, intrusive thoughts, emotional dysregulation, or burnout. Others are managing chronic psychiatric illness while striving to maintain independence, relationships, and quality of life.

Find the right psychiatrist for you
Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Mental Health Psychiatrist in Colorado
Finding psychiatrists in Colorado starts with understanding what kind of care fits your needs. Psychiatrists and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners can diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe medication, and manage medication over time. Therapists provide talk therapy and can also be an important part of care. If you are looking for support with anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, or medication management, review each psychiatrist’s listed specialties, training, and approach to see whether their experience matches what you want help with.
Psychiatry in Colorado can vary by location, from larger areas like Denver and Colorado Springs to communities near Fort Collins and other parts of the state. Some people prefer an in-person appointment close to home or work, while others choose virtual visits for more scheduling options. Psychiatric appointments for medication management are often shorter and less frequent than therapy sessions, and some psychiatrists also offer therapy. As you compare options, look at appointment availability, whether the psychiatrist is accepting new patients, and whether a free phone consultation is offered. Reading bios can help you understand how each psychiatrist communicates, what they focus on, and what to expect from a first appointment.
Psychiatric care in Colorado can be a significant expense without insurance. Using in-network coverage is one of the most reliable ways to reduce out-of-pocket costs and make ongoing care easier to plan for. Headway helps you find psychiatrists who are accepting new patients and match your insurance details, then shows your estimated session cost before you book. Nationally, Headway partners with 100+ insurance plans, so you can browse psychiatrists, review bios, and book directly when you are ready.
If you're already taking psychiatric medication and considering switching providers, talk to your current prescriber before changing or stopping any medication — most psychiatric medications shouldn't be stopped abruptly. Anyone experiencing thoughts of self-harm or in acute crisis should call 988 or go to the nearest emergency department rather than wait for an outpatient appointment.
