I’m Mike Smukler, a licensed mental health counselor with over two decades of experience working with adults across Massachusetts. Before this work I was in film, teaching filmmaking at a nonprofit media arts center, and in 2004 I spent a year on a suicide hotline that changed the direction of my life. Both taught me the same thing: pay close attention, don’t rush people, and trust that people usually know more about themselves than they let on.
Since then I’ve worked across private practice, outpatient care, and community mental health, and I’ve also held clinical supervision and leadership roles supporting other clinicians.
Today, I work with adults of all backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ clients, and I bring a depth-oriented approach that draws from psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, and ACT - practiced without rigidity. rigidity. Sessions are available via telehealth Tuesday through Saturday across Massachusetts.
I get so excited to watch clients learn more about themselves, build self confidence and grow as individuals. The transformations I have witnessed in the people I have worked with over the years is amazing and awe inspiring. Emotional pain can be incredibly difficult to deal with, especially on one’s own. Ultimately, we all deserve to feel better about ourselves and learn to care for ourselves in a more kind and accepting way.

You may look like you have it all together on the outside while feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of what to do next. Maybe you’re struggling with anxiety, stress, relationships, self-confidence, or a transition that has made life feel harder than usual. You don’t have to wait until things feel unbearable to reach out. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Massachusetts, I work with clients who want to better understand themselves, feel more grounded, and make meaningful changes in their lives. Hello, and welcome. My name is Elisha Bernstein and I’m a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with over 17 years of experience supporting individuals through life’s challenges. I attended Simmons University in Social Work. Most of my clinical background is working in acute behavioral health needs.
I love working with clients who are reflective, open to self-exploration and ready to challenge long-standing beliefs about themselves. I help adults build confidence, improve emotional regulation, strengthen relationships, and develop healthier coping strategies for managing stress, anxiety, or trauma-related symptoms. I believe therapy is a collaborative process where clients gain practical tools to interrupt negative thought cycles, process difficult experiences, and move toward a more balanced, self-compassionate way of living. This helps clients experience greater clarity, stronger boundaries, and improved self-worth.
