You’ve spent years perfecting the art of "fine." You’ve mastered the mask, you’ve white-knuckled your way through the sensory overload of the workday, and you’ve managed the "high-functioning" anxiety that everyone else thinks is just "ambition." But when you get home, the tank is empty. The ADHD noise is deafening, and the weight of past trauma makes it feel like you’re constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. I see you. And I know how exhausting it is to perform your own life. Let's find the version of your life that doesn't require you to be exhausted all the time

Hello! My name is Lauren Donato. I have been a mental health counselor for 18 years. Since I was a young girl I knew I wanted to help people, especially people who required advocacy. This led me to start my career working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I have worked in group home and clinic settings for over 15 years. My personal experiences also started me on a professional journey providing reproductive counseling for people who are struggling with infertility. I also have a focus on working with people who experienced trauma and those struggling with anxiety and depression. My approach to treatment is client centered. When working with me you should expect to go at your own pace and to have a say in the techniques we use. We will work towards a common goal of you living your best life. I draw upon CBT, DBT, trauma focused, ABA, and mindfulness techniques. I like to think of therapy as the gym for your mind, so you will need to do some work in order to see results. I am happy to provide you with motivation and support during your workout!
In learning about one’s personal strengths I utilize that information to assist in the healing process exploring what you would like to see different in your life and explore options in our journey together. I assist individuals to find new ways to cope, function and learn to let go of behaviors that are no longer serving their best interests.
I take an active role in therapy and typically don't do the minimalistic responses - though there is a time and place for this. I like to have conversational-style dialogue with clients, and feel that I am open and empathic while bringing in humor and "realness" to the session; I show up as my true self as much as possible.
I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Texas A&M University, and my MS in Counseling Psychology from SMU.
The primary modalities I find most impactful are EMDR (I am an EMDRIA Certificied EMDR Therapist and EMDR Consultant-In-Training/CIT) with an attachment-focused and polyvagal theory lens.
I hold advanced training in EMDR, ART, Brainspotting, Trauma Conscious Yoga Method, and others. I am an expert in treating trauma with medication-assisted psychotherapy and have completed numerous trainings in training from MAPS PBC, as well as a year-long fellowship in with the Integrative Psychiatry Institute (Headway does not allow these services on their platform).
I am licensed in over 15 states and am a board-approved Associate counselor supervisor in multiple states as well, where I oversee the required supervised hours of associate-level counselors working towards their full licensure status.
In my non-therapy time, I enjoy cooking (and eating - I'm a bit of a foodie), concerts, reading, traveling, being outside, pilates (all hail the reformer!), and playing golf with my husband. We live in Austin, TX with our dog, Otter.

I have 13 years of experience as an inpatient psychiatric NP at Northwell Health.
