I’m Dr. Joseph Yanni, a licensed psychologist who works with teenagers, college students, young adults, adults, parents, and families navigating anxiety, ADHD, emotional regulation, school and college stress, relationship challenges, and life transitions. I earned my Psy.D. in School Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University and continue to work as a school psychologist, supporting students with emotional disabilities in a specialized educational setting. This experience has given me a practical understanding of how emotional, academic, social, family, and developmental concerns often overlap.
I use a collaborative, practical, and integrative approach that draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, humanistic and person-centered therapy, behavioral strategies, and lifestyle-based interventions. I believe therapy should be individualized rather than following a one-size-fits-all model. Together, we work to better understand what is contributing to the concern, build practical coping skills, strengthen relationships, and develop realistic strategies that create meaningful change.
I work especially well with teenagers, college students, young adults, and parents navigating the transition from adolescence into adulthood, while also supporting adults and families facing anxiety, relationship concerns, and other important life challenges. I provide in-person therapy in Scarsdale and Pleasantville, along with virtual therapy throughout New York State.
As an experienced psychotherapist, I believe that an empathic approach creates an environment, in which, trust and curiosity can flourished, facilitating the adjustment to an already difficult process. The relationship between psychotherapist and patient constitutes an important tool, in the understanding of patient's past and present behaviors.
I've worked successfully with race-and class-diverse, LGBT and straight clients from teens to seniors. Many are new to NYC or in other life transitions. Clients come with anxiety, identity issues, relationship or work problems, trouble managing anger...My style is warm yet analytical, and interactive. I encourage laughter! I find that people want to understand themselves, break free from self-damaging patterns, and live more fully--and joyfully.
Hey there! I hope you will not hang out with me for a long time. I am here to evaluate your challenge and suggest a way out of anxiety, depression, loneliness, and such. Therapy must be short and effective, not a drag.
I offer:
- Short-term holistic therapy. It means we look at your lifestyle and mainly: what you think, what you believe in, if you are physically active, if you eat junk, drink sodas and alcohol, if you watch junk, and how you dress. Your posture matter as well. All of these are pillars of your success for your mental health.
If you need diagnostic evals for your schools and work:
- Borderline Personality Disorder evaluations
- ADHD & Autism evaluations
If you think you are super strange and have nobody to talk to about your UFO abductions and psychic visits- you are at the right place.
I offer clinically rooted and evidence based sessions
- Support for dissociation , UFO dreams, out-of-body experiences and all that cool staff.
- ESA psychiatric evaluations for qualified NYC clients
I hold a degree in Advanced Clinical Practice from Columbia University School of Social Work and am a licensed psychotherapist in New York City.

Hi there and welcome!
My priority is supporting clients on their journeys towards personal healing & growth.
In 2010, I received my MSW/LMSW. While doing outpatient clinical work at the NYC non-profit agency JBFCS, I became an LCSW. In 2016, I began to establish my private psychotherapy practice, focusing on young and professional adults presenting with a broad variety of life challenges.
I have been trained in expressive arts therapy and is a certified gestalt therapist. I utilizes the arts according to each person’s abilities to imagine and develop body awareness. My eclectic approach suits people who seek to find themselves in mental health. As a blind Japanese immigrant, I work especially well with differently-abled people and Pan Asians.
I am a Columbia University trained psychotherapist and have been practicing therapy for the past 16 years. My style of practice is interactive and relational. This means we will work together and build a relationship from which we can work through what you need help with. I tend to be transparent and will share my thoughts with you. This will be an active therapy experience where we will use our smarts and strengths collaboratively to bring about change. My post graduate training in couple and family therapy gives me a deep understanding of how to help individuals, couples and families struggling with relationship issues.
I believe that we are all best understood when space is made for all that impacts us- including our gender, class, race, sexual orientation, families of origin and how all these parts of us intersects with social context, history and the world around us. I specialize in couple and family therapy and also have extensive experience providing individual therapy
If you would like to see if we would be a good match to work together, the next step would be to set up a 10-15 minute call. Please feel free to call me or you reach out via email to schedule a time for us to talk by phone.
