Hi, I'm Angela, a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Before becoming a PMHNP, I spent over a decade as a nurse working in emergency rooms, correctional facilities, and inpatient psychiatric units, so I've seen mental health care from just about every angle. That experience taught me to meet people exactly where they are, without judgment. I offer virtual psychiatric care to adults and adolescents in Washington State, with a focus on anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, and trauma.
Hi, I’m Mariam Opafunso, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I earned my Master of Science in Nursing from Ohio University and have experience working in both inpatient and outpatient behavioral health settings. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and other mood-related concerns, as well as eating-related conditions in adolescents and adults.
Outside of my professional role, I value balance and growth, and I show up fully for the people I serve. I understand that seeking help can feel overwhelming, and I create a space where you feel comfortable, respected, and truly heard.
As a dually certified provider, I offer a unique blend of clinical precision and compassionate, holistic care for both the body and soul. My journey began in 1995 as a nurse, followed by earning my medical degree in 2002 and completing a residency in General Pathology in Postgraduate Education Academy, Kharkov, Ukraine, which provided me with a profound understanding of the biological foundations of health. In 2006, I met my future husband and moved to the United States.
In the United States, I advanced my nursing career, working as a Registered Nurse and becoming a Family Practice Nurse Practitioner (FNP) in 2019. During this time, I managed complex primary care and detoxification protocols for adults and adolescents in behavioral health inpatient settings. In 2024, I achieved my Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) and certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
I believe effective mental health care starts with feeling heard, respected, and understood. I take a collaborative, non-judgmental approach and work closely with you to understand your goals, concerns, and life context—not just your symptoms.
I value clear communication and transparency, so I’ll explain diagnoses, treatment options, and medications in a way that’s easy to understand. My goal is to help you feel confident and informed about your care, not rushed or overwhelmed.
I provide evidence-based medication management while considering the whole person—mental, emotional, and physical health. I welcome questions and encourage active participation in treatment decisions so we can create a plan that truly fits your needs.
Whether you’re seeking care for anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, or ongoing medication management, I aim to create a supportive, safe space where progress feels achievable and care feels personal.
I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma-related disorders, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and OCD in adolescents and adults. As a Doctor of Nursing Practice and board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I bring more than 20 years of nursing experience, including extensive work in critical care and neuro-trauma medicine. My approach combines evidence-based medication management, psychotherapy, and practical lifestyle interventions to help patients achieve meaningful and lasting improvement.
I am passionate about health and wellbeing. I hope to be able to help people thrive. I work in a collaborative way with clients to identify the root of their problems, find creative solutions, and address their questions and concerns along the way. I aim to provide individualized care, not just follow a standard protocol. I have extensive experience as a diagnostician/prescriber in internal medicine, family practice, women's health, endocrine conditions, including hormone management and gender affirming care. I am passionate about mental health care and have experience providing treatment for many conditions, including mood, attention, and thought disorders. I have some experience working with children and families, and extensive experience working with adolescents, adults, and older adults.

Find the right psychiatrist for you
Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Psychiatrist in Olympia, WA
Finding the right psychiatrist in Olympia starts with understanding what kind of care you need. Psychiatrists can diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe medication, and manage medication as part of care. Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners can also diagnose and prescribe. Therapists focus on talk therapy, and some people work with both a therapist and a prescriber. If you are looking for support with anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, or medication management, look for a psychiatrist whose listed specialties and experience match your needs.
Olympia is a smaller city, so the number of nearby psychiatry options may be more limited than in larger Washington markets. Virtual appointments can expand your options while still letting you choose in-person care when it fits your schedule and preferences. Psychiatric medication management appointments are often shorter and less frequent than therapy sessions, though some psychiatrists also offer therapy. As you compare profiles, review availability, whether the psychiatrist is accepting new patients, appointment format, and bios that explain their approach to care.
Psychiatric care in Olympia can be a significant expense without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and see your estimated price before you book. Headway helps you find psychiatrists who match your preferences, take your insurance, and are accepting new patients. You can review bios, compare virtual and in-person options, and book directly when you are ready.
If you're already taking psychiatric medication and considering switching providers, talk to your current prescriber before changing or stopping any medication — most psychiatric medications shouldn't be stopped abruptly. Anyone experiencing thoughts of self-harm or in acute crisis should call 988 or go to the nearest emergency department rather than wait for an outpatient appointment.
