I’m Mike, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Substance Abuse Counselor with over a decade of experience supporting people in recovery. I’m also a U.S. Army veteran, and that part of my story shapes how I show up in this work. I understand what it’s like to carry things you didn’t ask to carry.
Whether you’re a veteran, a service member, or someone navigating life’s challenges, you don’t have to have it all figured out to start. My goal is to meet you where you are and create a space where you can feel understood, supported, and respected.
You don't need to know exactly what's wrong before reaching out. Most people I work with start with a sense that something is off, or that they've been managing on their own for too long. That's enough to begin. I work with adults and adolescents facing trauma, depression, and substance use, which are often more connected than they look from the outside. Figuring out how they fit together is part of our work. I'm patient and fairly direct, and I keep a sense of humor in the room. Clients often tell me they don't feel rushed or judged with me, and that matters more to the work than any single technique.
Sometimes life can look fine from the outside while you are carrying much more than people realize. You may be managing work, family, relationships, or responsibilities for everyone else while quietly dealing with anxiety, stress, past experiences, relationship concerns, anger, or simply feeling stuck. Therapy can be a place where you no longer have to carry all of that by yourself.
I am a Licensed Therapist in Washington, DC and a Licensed Therapist in Virginia. I earned my Master of Social Work from Washington University and my Bachelor of Social Work from Howard University. I bring more than 25 years of experience in human services and have worked with adolescents, adults, and families across behavioral health and community-based settings.
My clinical work is grounded in trauma-informed, person-centered, and strengths-based practice. I am especially interested in supporting people navigating anxiety, stress, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, emotional regulation, self-esteem, boundaries, and the pressure that can come from taking care of everyone while trying to take care of yourself.
You do not have to come to therapy with everything figured out. We can start with where you are.
