I’m Michel'le a Licensed Professional Counselor (Attachment Style Specialist | Relationship Trauma Therapist) and the founder of mPOWERED THERAPY.
My mission is to help brown and black teens and women heal from unhealthy relationship patterns by understanding the connection between attachment, trauma, and emotional well-being.
I have 12 years of experience in the mental health field. I’ve worked with clients in several settings, helping them navigate depression, life stressors, anxiety, trauma, transitions, and relationship challenges. I specialize in attachment styles, relationship trauma, boundaries, anxiety, self-worth, and helping women break cycles of people-pleasing, overthinking, and emotional burnout.
Through individual therapy, CBT techniques and psycho-education, I help clients modify thinking patterns and implement behavioral changes.
Deciding on a therapist can be a daunting experience; I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years of experience. I provide psychotherapy services via video and phone sessions. I have always known there was a need for high-quality mental health providers. Therefore, I focus my clinical practice on providing high-quality services and evidence-based interventions to my clients. I have treated many clients with a variety of diagnoses including: addiction, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, PTSD and attention deficit disorder.
I have a strong passion to help people, and truly believe in each individual’s strengths and abilities. Some of the treatment modalities used are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and a Strengths-Based approach in an unbiased and non judgmental manner. Thus allowing me to create the holding space my clients need.
I have realized that when we understand our strengths and have developed them we are able to improve and or have a better quality of life. Sometimes we do not understand that a crisis can affect many different areas in our life and recognizing and acknowledging it is the first step in our journey to healing.
My practice is guided by two simple beliefs:
1. People heal when they feel truly seen.
2. We are as unique on the inside as we are on the outside.
I work with adolescents and adults on anxiety, ADHD, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma, burnout, and more. I have a particular interest in high-achieving women navigating anxiety, ADHD, burnout, and perimenopause—a combination I see often and that frequently flies under the radar for years.
Medication may be part of the plan. So might sleep, hormones, relationships, labs, supplements, breath work, therapy, diet, pharmacogenomic testing, and more. You're not a container we pop a pill into every day, but a dynamic human being, and together we'll figure out what actually moves the needle for you.
Before I became a nurse practitioner, I taught violin for over 25 years. I never expected that to matter later, but it turns out I'd spent decades practicing exactly the skills I use now: listening closely, meeting someone where they actually are, and trusting that healing—like learning—looks different for everybody.
I earned my Master's degree from Frontier Nursing University and am licensed in Virginia and Maryland. Whether this is your first time seeking psychiatric care or you're looking for a different perspective, I'd love to connect and learn how I can help you feel like the person you've always known you could be.
