I am non-judgmental, open-minded and solution focused. I have a trauma history of my own and I get it. I can shine a light on the path out of there. I will meet you where you are at and walk with you to a place that is happier and healthier. I am an art therapist, and believe in past life-times that have had an effect on who we have become. I was born into a conservative religion and escaped. I specialize in helping people leave organized religion.
I’m Virginia Rubio, a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I earned my Master of Science in Nursing from Wilkes University and my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Before becoming a nurse practitioner, I spent more than a decade as a registered nurse, and those years shaped the kind of provider I am today. I worked on telemetry and medical-surgical units at a community hospital, cared for patients at a state psychiatric hospital, and provided care in correctional and juvenile health settings. I often met people at some of the hardest moments of their lives, many of whom had been dismissed or overlooked before. Sitting with them taught me something I carry into every visit: being truly listened to is part of healing.
Today I work with adults facing anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, and trauma and PTSD. I’m especially drawn to women’s mental health, including perinatal concerns, hormonal and life transitions, and the quiet pressures so many women carry without ever putting a name to them. I’m bilingual in English and Spanish, and I see patients throughout California by secure video.
Outside of work, I recharge with my family, time outdoors, staying active, and a mindfulness practice I’ve kept up for years. These aren’t separate from my work. They’re a big part of why I believe our daily habits and our emotional health are so closely connected, and why I bring both into the care I provide.
Licensed since 2012, I bring over a decade of diverse clinical experience across both inpatient and outpatient settings. In my private practice, I provide dedicated therapeutic care for adults. Alongside my clinical work, I regularly consult with the court system to perform specialized forensic evaluations.
I am a dual board-certified Nurse Practitioner specializing in both Family Practice and Psychiatric Mental Health. With a foundation in whole-person, evidence-based care, I integrate medical management with psychotherapy and lifestyle interventions to support mental and physical wellness.
My background spans outpatient psychiatry, primary care, home health, and assisted living settings, allowing me to understand the unique needs of patients across all stages of life. I have extensive experience treating mood and anxiety disorders, trauma-related conditions, and chronic medical comorbidities that impact emotional well-being.
I believe in creating a collaborative, compassionate, and culturally sensitive environment where patients feel heard and empowered to take an active role in their care. My approach focuses on building balance—supporting both the mind and body—through medication management, therapy, and integrative care strategies.
I am doing work I love whole-heartedly. I have always loved hearing people's stories, and getting to know what makes people feel most alive. My empathy, warmth and openness support people in feeling comfortable and held in session.
