I support adults and teens who are navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, or overwhelming life experiences. My training includes EMDR, TF-CBT, CBT, and mindfulness-based approaches, and I focus on helping clients reduce distress, build resilience, and feel more grounded and empowered. As a bilingual English/Farsi therapist and immigrant, I value cultural sensitivity, identity awareness, and creating a non-judgmental space where clients can explore their experiences safely and authentically.
Introduction
I primarily use a cognitive behavioral approach. My focus area of practice is helping clients improve their lives and find meaningful change.
My communication style
My sessions are calm, collegial, interactive, respectful, directive, and helpful.
How I help clients reach goals
Change does not necessarily take a long time. We're 'shooting for the moon' right away. What's the worst that could happen?
My journey to becoming a provider
Helping others help themselves is an absolute privilege! I'd pay them to do this work (but please don't tell them that.) How did I get here? It's a long story. I originally went to college to be a journalist, but changed to broadcasting. Dumb. I needed to jumpstart my life, so I changed to this profession. Talk about purpose and meaning!

We can all feel overwhelmed by persistent sadness, anxiety, or racing thoughts. Major life shifts—like a career change, relationship end, parenting, or new phase of life—can be difficult to navigate. You do not have to figure it out alone.

Some of what you are carrying has never fit neatly into words. I'm Richard, a licensed marriage and family therapist in California and a working artist with a master's degree in fine art. Over twenty years in mental health, across inpatient units, day programs, and skilled nursing, I have sat with teens, adults, and seniors through anxiety, depression, grief and loss, bipolar disorder, family conflict, stress, and the weight of chronic illness. I am patient, open-minded, and inclusive, and when talking stalls I bring in expressive art. You do not need to be an artist for that to help. Come as you are.
