I use a four- fold approach to treating beyond traditional psychotherapy to help you on your journey. I have PhD in Clinical psychology, two master's degree (one in community counseling, one in community psychology). I also have a degree in Addictions and one in business management. Having worked every level of care from an inpatient hospital setting, residential long-term care, in a jail, a prison, out-patient levels for intensive three times per week to one time per week and taught in two universities. I am working my favorite level of care on an out-patient setting. Training has been in addictions, mental health, couples and family systems. I have other specialties with chronic pain and nutrition/bariatrics and obesity and available to provide medical and court evaluations with limited testing. I see children from 12 and up and adults/geriatrics.
Being a therapist has consistently helped me find special compassion for those in need. I started my practice based on three core beliefs: growth, resilience, and empowerment. I believe that every person is worthy of success, happiness, and wellness. This often involves changing dysfunctional habits, reframing beliefs about the self and the world, and empowerment. All things are possible, but don't need to be accomplished alone!
I provide Couple Therapy to help reconnect, feel close again, and move beyond repetitive arguments by getting to the deeper hurt and needs beneath the conflict. Hi, I'm Derrick, a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and founder of Guardian Path Counseling Services. With more than 15 years of experience in mental health and education, I work with adolescents, teens, and adults facing anxiety, stress, behavioral concerns, emotional challenges, and life's many transitions. I've worked in both school and clinical settings and believe therapy should feel like a real conversation, not something overly clinical or intimidating.
I focus on building a genuine connection and using plain talk so you can feel comfortable being yourself. From there, we'll work together to better understand what's going on, build on your strengths, and find practical ways to help you move forward with greater confidence and clarity.
