Writing a great bio for your practice
With so many details about you and your practice, it can be hard to know where to begin. Here’s a great template for getting started.
Step One
Start with your name and credentials

"[NAME IN THIRD PERSON], is a board certified [LICENSE TYPE], from [CITY AND STATE],"


Example: Dr. Sarah Smith is a board-certified psychologist from New York, NY.

Step Two
Describe your client population and specialties

"who works with [CLIENT POPULATION] and provides care for patients who struggle with [SPECIALTIES]."


Example: “who works with adults and adolescents, and provides care for patients who struggle with anxiety and depression.

Step Three
Highlight your experience and expertise

"[NAME IN THIRD PERSON], has extensive experience with [TYPE OF CARE], and has been a board certified [LICENSE TYPE] for [YEARS IN PRACTICE]."


Example: "Dr. Smith has extensive experience with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and has been a board-certified psychologist for over 10 years."

Step Four
Explain your treatment approach

"[NAME IN THIRD PERSON], treatment approach is rooted in [AREA OF FOCUS]."


Example: "Dr. Smith's treatment approach is rooted in evidence-based practices that focus on the mind-body connection."

Step Five
Mention your education and training

"[NAME IN THIRD PERSON], studied at [UNIVERSITY], where they obtained a [TYPE OF DEGREE]."


Example: "Dr. Smith studied at Columbia University, where she obtained a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology."

Step Six
Highlight your previous care experience

"They also worked for [LAST PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT] for [YEARS YOU WORKED THERE], where they established their [NURTURING TECHNIQUES YOU USE IN PRACTICE] that has been a crucial part of their practice and their patients' success and progress."


Example: "She also worked at Mount Sinai Hospital for 5 years, where she established her mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques that have been a crucial part of her practice and her patients' success and progress."

Step Seven
Discuss your goals for clients

"[NAME IN THIRD PERSON], main goals for their patient include [GOALS THAT YOU HAVE FOR YOUR PATIENTS]."


Example: "Dr. Smith's main goals for her patients include reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression, improving overall well-being, and promoting personal growth and resilience."

Step Eight
Share your beliefs about mental health

"They believe that in their practice, their patients can [BELIEFS YOU HAVE]. [NAME IN THIRD PERSON] has a unique view and experience with [TYPE OF CARE] that will [RESULTS OF CARE]."


Example: "She believes that in her practice, her patients can overcome any obstacle. She has a unique view and experience with CBT that results in long-lasting behavioral changes using evidence-based care."

Step Nine
Explain how you’ve excelled

"[NAME IN THIRD PERSON] has excelled in their practice because they [WHY YOU HAVE EXCELLED]."


Example: "Dr. Smith has excelled in her practice because she is passionate about helping her patients achieve their goals and provides a safe and non-judgmental space for them to explore their thoughts and feelings."

Step Ten
Share some personal information about yourself

"[NAME IN THIRD PERSON], is an avid [HOBBY OR SKILL] and enjoys [WHAT ARE THE LITTLE THINGS THAT YOU ENJOY IN LIFE?]. They are inspired by [WHAT ARE YOU INSPIRED BY?] and want that same inspiration to translate to their patients' treatment."


Example: "Dr. Smith is an avid yoga practitioner and enjoys traveling and exploring different cultures. She is inspired by the resilience and strength of her patients and wants to empower them to achieve their full potential."

Step Eleven
Include insurance info and how to get in touch

"[NAME IN THIRD PERSON] accepts UHC, Oxford, Oscar, Aetna, Cigna, and BCBS insurance. If you are experiencing any struggles or simply want someone to chat with, please reach out via text or email."


Example: "Dr. Sarah Smith accepts UHC, Oxford, Oscar, Aetna, Cigna, and BCBS insurance. If you are experiencing any struggles or simply want someone to chat with, please reach out via text or email to schedule an appointment."

Step Twelve
Share your completed bio online
You can share it on Headway, Psychology Today, Google My Business, Zocdoc, a personal website, in Facebook groups, and more!
