Great to meet you!

Hello; I am Michael Atwood and I have been working as a fully Licensed LPC in the state of Texas since 2018. Even before that I have been working in various forms with the mental health field since my time at East Texas Baptist University studying for my degrees in psychology and counseling. My varied experience at different levels of care and with different populations has given me the ability to connect with clients from all walks of life and with different needs.

A bit about my approach to therapy

In therapy, I work to identify and build on skills that clients already possess while providing support for areas of need. I primarily do this through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Rational Emotive Behavioral therapy, but I frequently adapt modalities to fit clients' situations and needs. I love to add humor or encouragement when possible but also have no problem challenging clients when appropriate.

What you can expect from our first session

I strive to provide an open environment for clients where they can be honest with themselves and work to improve their thinking, feelings and behaviors in order to live the life closer to the one they want. I give information and homework to facilitate this growth and a sounding board for problems and solutions but my clients see best results when they are prepared to to the work both in sessions and between them.
