Great to meet you!
I worked as a clinical social worker for over 17 years. My experience has been primarily with the Department of Veterans Affairs. I worked with clients having a variety of mental health diagnoses including Generalized Anxiety, PTSD, Depression and Bipolar Disorder. I've also worked with end of life patients in the Oncology Department, with soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and with homeless veterans. I am looking to work with individual adults in a therapeutic relationship.
A bit about my approach to therapy
I use integrative approaches in therapy consisting of cognitive behavioral , motivational interviewing and psychodynamic techniques. I will use the session time to let you express your thoughts and feelings. Also, we will complete intakes and treatment plans. I will use screening tools to gage if you are depressed or anxious. At times, you will even jot down your thoughts and actions in a notebook. Hopefully, you will be motivated for change and well-being.
What you can expect from our first session
I am hoping that a client will be able to take away from therapy more insight into their thoughts and behaviors. I am hoping that clients can also learn more about how to help themselves overcome obstacles. I also want to be the person that the client can confide in to share their deepest emotions and feelings.
