The best marketplace for clients to find you

You've told us you want access to more clients. We're investing in our marketplace, where prospective clients find, connect with, and book a provider who fits their needs.

  • What's new: You'll see ongoing improvements to our marketplace, marketing, health system partnerships, support, and more. To support this, we are introducing a $9.99 fee on every appointment with a client who finds you through Headway’s marketplace. The fee applies for as long as you see that client, not just their first session. It does not apply to clients you bring yourself, who book with you through your direct link, or who found you on Headway before these updates. We'll share more specifics as these changes are introduced over time.
  • What you need to do: Review your marketplace settings to match how you want access to clients through Headway. You can turn new clients on or off for each health plan you're credentialed with, and review the details of each match before you meet.
  • What your clients see: Nothing changes for clients you already see on Headway. New clients will see an improved experience finding and connecting with a provider.

An upgraded EHR that brings your whole session together

Reduce your admin load and stay present with every client — at no additional cost.

  • Better calls: Headway Telehealth will be powered by Zoom, the same reliable, HIPAA-compliant technology behind millions of healthcare calls around the country. Clients can also join sessions easily from our new iOS app.
  • Easier session prep: A session prep sidebar will show highlights from the client’s last session, treatment goals, assessments, and billing status, so you can jump in with context.
  • Lower fees: Private pay fees recently dropped to 2.95% per session.
  • More coming soon: Headway’s Scribe for talk therapy intake notes (in addition to progress notes), AI-assisted treatment plans, and free e-prescribe.

Annual chart reviews to support your practice

Proactive reviews let us get ahead of issues before plans do — which helps us protect your rates, bi-weekly payments, and agreements.

  • What’s new: Once a year, we'll check a sample of your notes against documentation standards — patient safety, clinical best practices, and documentation quality that supports billing — and work with you to close any gaps. This replaces some of the ad hoc reviews many of you have already been through, and you'll know about it in advance. You can still keep documentation on or off of Headway, and we’ll ask for notes as needed.
  • What you need to do: When you’re up for review, we'll send instructions by email and in your portal. You'll share up to ten notes within 30 days. Feedback applies to future notes, so you won’t need to rewrite anything.
  • What your clients see: Nothing, and you do not need to request any additional consents.

Outcome assessments to help demonstrate progress

Health plans are tying their best rates — and access to more clients — to a higher standard: more measurement-informed care and clear proof that treatment works.

  • What's new: Starting October 12, talk therapists on Headway will be asked to have every adult client complete a baseline assessment, like the PHQ-9 or GAD-7, at the start of care, where clinically appropriate. We'll ask for one completed follow-up assessment per client each year. We'll bring this to psychiatric care providers and group practices next.
  • What you need to do: If a client does not complete a required assessment, we'll ask you to indicate a reason. You can also select which assessment to send when you add a new client to Headway.
  • What your clients see: A short assessment at the start of care and when you send follow-ups. Most clients complete these while onboarding to Headway today.
