Great to meet you!
I have a doctorate degree in counseling with my residency facilitated through Johns Hopkins University. As a research scientist, author, educator, and counselor, I believe in an integrated, multi-faceted approach. I maintain a blog with Psychology Today where I write on a host of topics: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/contributors/rodney-luster-phd

A bit about my approach to therapy
I am a “pragmatic” therapist. I see the potentials in various approaches and philosophies as they serve the prospect for addressing a client’s needs. Having taught and studied the discipline from an array of perspectives, I utilize my first few sessions to gain an understanding of the client’s personality, their issues while understanding their goals, and ultimately finding the most salient and potential evidenced-based tactical approaches for achieving results.
What you can expect from our first session
I see counseling as a hero’s journey. Our story arc in life is often met with challenges along the way, the metaphorical dragons from life take literal shape as major life issues. It is at this critical point that we decide if, and how, we confront them. Every hero needs a counselor, a mentor, that can help resource them for this internal journey. I help client's take away greater insight, resourcing and strengths when we work together on issues.
