Great to meet you!
Hi there! As a licensed mental health therapist, the majority of my work has evolved into supporting folks who are looking for some extra help to understand and manage their unwanted thoughts, emotions, and behaviors caused by anxiety or depression. Oftentimes these issues are revealed during life transitions, relational challenges (with family or intimate partner/s), or situational stress, and that is when folks seek out therapy. If this feels relatable, then you're in the right place.
A bit about my approach to therapy
I tend to be warm, curious, empathetic, and open to a good laugh during sessions when the moment strikes. I take a trauma informed Cognitive Behavioral approach to therapy that involves question asking, educating, and assigning homework to help clients develop self awareness and intentionality. I also utilize handouts to help convey concepts visually and as reminders for what we talk about.
What you can expect from our first session
Generally, clients can expect to have a better understanding of themselves after each session so that they might feel more confident about how to deal with whatever it is they are struggling with. The hope is that with practice and self understanding, clients get to know the unhelpful repeating patterns that led them to therapy in the first place, and with humor and compassion they are able to change or limit the impact those patterns might have on them in the future.
