Great to meet you!
I've been fortunate enough to have worked in a variety of settings and with different populations. My first job was at my University's own counseling center, working on everything from gender identity and sexuality issues to grief and divorce. Next, I served the emotional needs of school age children and their families as an outpatient therapist. Most recently I have been helping adults, including many veterans, to process trauma and learn coping skills to live calmer, more satisfying lives.
A bit about my approach to therapy
I am a client-centered, solution-focused therapist with much experience in treating depression, anxiety, trauma, complicated family dynamics, and relationship issues. I believe that a close, trust-based relationship between client and counselor is the most important factor in achieving personal growth in therapy.
What you can expect from our first session
I am a firm believer that human beings will only consider making changes in their lives when those changes feel achievable. As such, I will likely ask you what in your life interferes the most with your happiness. From there we'll create realistic goals and methods for reaching them. I often assign homework to encourage my clients to practice the skills we are working on in session. Don't worry, you won't be graded on them. ; )
