I use a "toolbox" approach using one or more therapeutic techniques based on what you need. In my therapeutic toolbox are mindfulness, interpersonal psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) skills, medications if needed, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and trauma-informed psychotherapy. I am confident that my combination of skills can help you if we have a good compatible emotional rapport together.
Medication can work great to clear that storm cloud over your head. But medication is not the quick fix many people think it is. Medication clears the way for the real work to begin, which happens in consistent regular weekly counseling and psychotherapy. Psychotherapy plus medication is considered the gold standard treatment for many mental health problems.
I have extensive clinical inpatient and outpatient experience with serious medical illness, palliative care, and hospice. I work with preteens, teens, adults, and the elderly from many different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. I am white, a first-generation American, identify as a heterosexual female, am sex positive, and LGBTQIA+ allied. My professional affiliations include the New York State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia University, the William Alanson White Institute Interpersonal Psychodynamic Psychotherapy program, and the National Institute for the Psychotherapies Integrative Trauma program.
I offer psychotherapy with me, and medication management if needed, in weekly or twice-weekly 50-minute sessions. I do not offer medication management only, even if you see a different therapist.
