My name is Aya and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the states of Texas and New Jersey with 10 years of overall experience as a social worker. I have worked in the fields of community mental health, medical social work, and social services. I am experienced in working with individuals who experience symptoms of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, PTSD and substance use disorder. I have also worked with individuals in crisis situations such as suicidal ideation, homelessness, physical and sexual abuse, substance use, terminal illnesses, and major life transitions.
I believe the most important component in therapy is a nurturing therapeutic relationship between client and therapist. As so, I strive to relate to my clients on both professional and personal levels. I use a strength-based, non-judgemental perspective, meaning I believe every individual is the best expert on themselves, however sometimes needs assistance identifying those strengths and applying them in real life to overcome obstacles. I help clients identify personal goals and take practical steps towards achievement. I utilize cognitive-behavioral techniques as well as active listening, motivational interviewing and dialectical behavioral therapy.
