Choosing to begin therapy is a brave thing to do and I know finding the right therapist can be a daunting part of the process. Above all else, I believe that everyone who undertakes personal psychological work deserves to do so with someone who’s not only a skilled professional, but also someone who is kind and supportive. That’s why my highest priority is to create a safe, judgement-free space in which you feel comfortable exploring all of your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
My approach is collaborative and eclectic--“eclectic” simply meaning I don’t believe there is a single therapeutic technique that works for everyone and therefore I utilize many. Always, I listen closely to understand a person at his/her deepest level -- their patterns of thought, behavior, and emotions, their ways of being, their individual temperaments. That understanding, coupled with a person’s concerns and goals, informs treatment.
In our sessions, we will build on the strengths you already have as we examine your relationships, recognize personal patterns of behavior, figure out what triggers anxiety and/or depression in you, and then work to alleviate and mitigate those difficult, sometimes debilitating feelings. Along the way, you may find yourself acknowledging or just really understanding—maybe for the first time—old, deep wounds that are still with you. One of my core beliefs is that we must have compassion for ourselves, to be more accepting of who we are and the path that has brought us where we are now. With that, we can remedy the present—and change the future.
The ultimate goal of all of this is to help you create a fuller and rewarding life.
